KVK-Bastar is presently working in 38 villages of 8 blocks for different activities i.e. trainings, demonstrations, OFT's under KVK and externally funded programmes of watershed development, MGNREGA, BRGF, NABARD and NHM in association with line department for upliftment if tribal livelihood.
The villages where the KVK has focused its activities during the last 5 years are predominantly tribal villages situated in the different blocks of Bastar district. These villages are deep inside the forests. Reducing natural resources (forest and non-timber forest produce), degrading land due to high erosion, exploitation by middleman and naxal activities are seriously affecting livelihood in these villages. Little interventions in terms of improved crop and natural resource management adopting principles of integrated farming system can pay big dividends.
In view of these 34 villages spread over diverse region in 08 Blocks of Bastar district covering an area of 79132 ha and approximately 6578 farm families is contacted for intervention. There were the some villages where no government machinery earlier dared to go due to fear of naxal activities, KVK scientists were first to approach these villages.
